ACCOMMODATION AND LOCATION Restored, former restaurant, midway in between Gerardmer and Colmar in the Alsace. The holiday house is situated near the towns of Schnepfenried and Sondernach, and near the Col de la Schlucht. In winter this is an ideal skiing area for starters and children. In summer, delightful walks and cycle tours can be made. The wooded, hilly area is very popular with cyclists, the slopes are not very steep. The wooded surroundings are also ideal for mountain bikers. The house borders on the mountain road, where little traffic comes along, in particular during summer. During winter, there is more traffic, especially on Saturdays. The house is neatly and tastefully furnished. The Vosges are not far away, and the vineyards of the Alsace can easily be reached as well. The city of Strasbourg, with its medieval centre, is well worth visiting. THE COLS OF THE VOSGES In the Vosges the sporting cyclist can enjoy him/herself and test his or her form. Within a small area east of Gérardmer you will find a number of beautiful and famous cols, like the Col de la Schlucht (17 km long, 1.100 m high), the Markstein (20 km long, 1.200 m high), the Petit Ballon (12 km long, 1.150 m high) and the Grand Ballon (13 km long, 1.350 m high). The beautiful, green landscapes and the beautiful views together with the smooth, not very steep cols cause this area to be a wonderful challenge for every sporting cyclist.
